About
Is your ready-to-wear wardrobe really ready to wear? For ALL of the activities, occasions and opportunities for expression in your life? If not, you’ve found the right resource to get ideas, instruction and inspiration to add some fabulous just-right-for-you handmade pieces to your ready-to-wear basics and create a fully functional wardrobe.
Maybe you, like me, are tired of settling for whatever is available in ready-to-wear: crazy colors and so-so fabrics, “OK” styles and suboptimal fit, or shopping when the only thing in the store is the trend of the minute. Sure, there are some great basics available for purchase, but where are the clothes that would really make your heart sing?
Well, I finally decided I had had enough. After another weekend of trying on the online purchases that I’d ordered in the past two weeks, being disappointed with the fit, the color, the fabric or just the style in general, filling out return forms, boxing up the rejects (mostly everything) and taking them to the UPS store or returning them to the local branch of the store, I had had enough of trying to build a wardrobe in this crazy-making way.
Returning home that day, I made a DECISION. For the next year (plus), until my next birthday, I would make every piece of clothing that I added to my wardrobe. Wow, that felt exciting! I forgot to mention that I love to knit and sew, so that statement really sparked my creativity…until the panic set in. OK, there could be exceptions.
Exception list:
- Underwear, bras and socks (though I’d like to make at least one (or one pair) of each)
- Technical gear: motorcycle gear, racing swimsuit.
- Shoes, sandals, and purses (but I do plan to make a pair of those funky knitted boots)
- Anything I ordered (and want to keep!) before THE DECISION.
This blog will detail my adventures in wardrobing and related activities (nearly everything is related in my mind!). Visit often to learn from my mistakes and successes. Together we’ll build the wardrobes we’ve been fantasizing about one fabulous piece at a time. You’ll soon be wearing the wardrobe you’ve been craving!
